Yoga starts with setting aside
time +
space.
Yoga with a focus on Self Care is characterized by the following elements:
-developing body awareness and the habit of checking-in
-increasing flexibility and releasing muscle tension, to allow for increased energy flow, and ease of movement in daily life
-building strength and connection through the body, and improving balance, to support good posture and prevent injury
-understanding how various poses affect
body systems and internal organs (ex. nervous, immune or endocrine systems)
-familiarity with poses that activate the 'relaxation response' (ie. the parasympathetic nervous system) promoting
stress relief, and allowing the body to rest, digest and heal
-practical tools such as breathing and relaxation techniques to calm the mind, build concentration, and promote
self-acceptance
-a focus on self-nurturing and mindfulness in daily life, to promote feelings of peace, joy and vitality
